Cohen is 12, Cheryl is home Schooling he and his sister Chloe, ten, – 3 days a week. They have benefitted noticeably by her efforts, we decided that practical skills are important. We had these off cuts from shelves and gave them the opportunity to make whatever they wanted with the wood. 
He decided on a house for their cat but it evolved into a jail. He is kind to their cats so we let him build it as he sees fit. He developed drill and drywall screw skills so well he didn’t want to stop. 
He installed the hinges by himself. We joked that he is ready to get a job in home construction! 
Both children worked safely with the tools. 
They worked all afternoon and enjoyed the projects they designed. 
Chloe installed a floor and then carpet entirely on her own. Both helped clean up, too. We are not sure about the cats!
